Hello everyone,
I am a new member in here, I used to read some topics in this form and they were useful,
anyway, I just received my step 1 score report last Wednesday
and it was Fail, it went really down from my last NBME
I:( am trying to get myself together and start studying again
I hope that I can find advice from all who can help me

how long and what did u study ? any question banks at all ?
thanks for replying

I studied for about 10 months!!, but actually was not continuous study, I had ti stop for few weeks here and there
I attended Kaplan live lectures for 14 wks
I did about 80% of Kaplan Q bank
then I started FA along with uworld
after finishing 100% uworld I did NBME 12 it was horrible score
I did pathoma videos since my weak area was pathology and biochem and micro and behavioral
then I did DIT 2014 and it took me around 2 months to finish it
after that my NBME score went up but still not good
NBME 15
I did FA again with some reading from microbiology made ridiculously simple
and I repeated some DIT topics
I did uworld ass 2 it was 208
and then NBME 16 217

hey. the same happened with my friend. got score report last Wednesday and failed by 2 marks. I dont mean to be rude but i want to ask what are the chances to match with a 2nd attempt on step 1. as of what i have heard people say that its really difficult to match on a second attempt. what is the best decision according to you- give a 2nd attempt to step 1 or quit the usmle journey entirely and search for different options. seriously looking for guidance on how to proceed... please advice with the best of your knowledge. thanks in advance

hey there
, first of all, I'm NOT thinking about quitting at all, I chose this path and I knew there are difficulties and I'll try my best
I know I have fewer chances that others who passed the first attempt, but still I have some chances, programme directors looks for different things in applicants not only their scores
I am trying to gather strength in here and you are talking about quitting!!
I will try to have some clinical experience in US before applying for the match
and even if I am not able to apply this year I'll apply next year
I have a goal and i am going to reach that goal in my way and in with my effort
so please if you have something to help me with I'll appreciate it
otherwise do not talk to me about quitting please

if i were u, i whould:

1- take a vacation
2- arrange a really high score goal for myself
3- avoid too many references! (study FA / Uworld really well and write notes of UW in my FA) (also write some important parts from kaplan in FA )
4- study for 10hr a day / 3-4 months
5- 4 blocks every day ! random :D and about 7 blocks/day, 1 w to exam (to get used to sitting 7-8 hrs for exam)

6- Rely on NBME / UW score (with + - 10) whether underestimating or overestimating u did not do well on self assessments !
and considering the stress of the exam !!! our performance will not be similar to our performance at home !Happy-2

good luck

m sorry but i didnt mean to discourage you. i myself am worried for my friend who failed so i wanted to ask for the best options available. but looking at your spirit of moving ahead and not looking back , is an inspiration in itself. i wish you all the very best and target a 240 now !!! good luck and please share your study plan that u make and how long are u planning on taking the step:)

Hi Sarah,
same situation here, failed in 2013 when I still was in the med school, now doing residency and determined to retake the step 1 around July 2016.
Is going to be difficult, but we will do it.

PM if you want to make a study schedule together!

another recommendation :

go to a library or a place where you can concentrate
deactivate your mobile apps (which waste your time) (I have done this!)
stay focused !
Try really Hard !
many people passed this exam with high scores ! why not you !
