I just wanted to thank you guys for advising me on so much. I learned a lot from this forum...but I still didn't get through the Step 2 CK (July 4, 2010)...it's heart-breaking really.

I'm confused as to what I should do right now. My Step 2 CS exam is scheduled for the end of August and I don't think I can focus on it right now...it's just unbelievable to me. I mean I failed by a few points -- NBME was right after all!

I wish I could turn back the clock and see what I did wrong. I thought I prepared well enough for the exam. Obviously not. I wasn't able to study full-time because I was working on some research. Maybe that was the problem. I finished UWorld (self-paced) and Kaplan Q-book (self-paced) and one NBME self-assessment just the day before the exam...(too confident! That was my downfall)...

My question:

1. Will this hurt my chances of residency in Pediatrics (first time fail in Step 2CK)?

2. Is it advisable to take my Step 2 CS end of August? I've already enrolled in a preparatory course there because I just want to make sure that I pass this. I can't afford to fail anything anymore.

Please reply...

Failing sucks, I get it, I've done it numerous times. After a couple days you will feel better and get back on your feet and feel even more determined.

You can't succeed without failure.

Keep strong, study hard and do lots of questions.

Do your CS exam and pass that and get your confidence up. Then go take that CK and kick its ass. They always say its better to fail than getting a low pass. You got this! now just go out and do it. Take your time and redo what you studied and relax. Nerves play a BIG roll in these exams.

I am so sorry to heard that u failed the CK..I don't think this will hurt your chance for resident, my sister and brother in low have failed steps before and now both got residencies.. Please don't get discouraged, take some time for yourself and reflect on what u did wrong, and try to concentrate on your weak points. As for CS if u can do it then go for for it, if not try to reschedule as soon as possible so u won't get charged...will pray for u and good luck...

Since you already paid for CS take it if your ready but about step 2 CK, if you have not studied and taken step one, forget CK for now, study for step one, reason is it will help your for step two. I have read where many advise step 2 before step 1, I keep saying there is a reason its "Step 1"

If you took and passed step 1 then revise step 2 CK for at least 3 more months.

Hi there! :)
Wow...it's actually beautiful to see how many care!

I finished my Step 2 CS and passed with off-the-charts high performance in August. Currently I'm working as a surgical intern in my home country and I'm hoping to re-sit the Step 2 CK in September....if all goes well!

The reason I failed before is probably due to lack of preparation and overconfidence (SMH)... NEVER will I make the same mistake again! I did my self-assessment a day before the exam when I should have done it a month and then at least a week in advance. ALWAYS ALWAYS do your self-assessments people! Also, I think you should stick to ONE prep book. If it's Kaplan, it's Kaplan; if it's FA, it's FA. Do NOT jumble it all up. Kaplan has 99% of the answers to most of these questions. Of course, they might throw a "doosrah" your way (cricket fans know what I'm talkin' about!)...but bat right and IT'S AN EFFING SIX!!!

Anyway, just prepare 3 months in advance for the Step 2 CK. Stick to one reading plan, do your self-assessments before you start your studying, and then a month before your exam and then 5 days before it...trust me! you can't go wrong!

:) Take care peepz! Happy studying! And pray for me...I have so much hope (notice I didn't say 'confidence') after my Step 2 CS. God willing, this is MY time! :):)
