Heyz all,
I am an international medical student, currently in my 5th yr (in my country medicine is 6 yrs), I've been concerned about doing step 1.

I realize that its a serious exam and needs solid preparation, and I really can't tell if I can manage my time to study for step 1 and my exams at medical school simultaneously.

So when do u advice me to sit for step 1?

Should I aim for 99, and nothing but 99 to guarantee a match?

Hello pal, I'm from the country that spend 6 years to finished the med school. I think yes, you should start it right now, because the more you get delayed the more you will lost your passion i think.:happy::happy: Just No procrastination and don't take it as a burden. Yup i do know how my classmate for 1 years spend only for USMLE but still join the class. Let us use our spare time very well. Nice to meet You

Yes. If you don't get 99 your chances in the match are very low.
But the 99 is not that difficult, you can get it if you start reading right now.

My advice is. Always aim high. Then you will focus to get that aim and maximize your effort. Never too early to start, aye...

how many months??

Ok but how many months r enough for step 1 prep,taking into consideration that i will be studying only 2hours daily ,since the rest of the time i will be studying for my school's exams..

WHAT????????thats COMPLETELY wrong.Many guys with much lower scores have gained very good residency spots!!!
Except if you want to get into a very competitive residency.Then you should have everything perfect...

No im aiming for Internal medicine or Neurology..is a score above 95 enough??

IM Average Step 1 Score: 226
Neurology: 225

I believe that score is not even 95

Hey ,,how r u ,, I advise u to read things which r mutual with what u r studying now in your college ...I mean if i were you ,, then i ll read pharmacology system wise along with Medicine lectures ,, well when u read a bacteria , virus ...etc in your lectures , u can then read them along with FA ,Kaplan or whatever sources u get fpr step1 ...
and u can watch kaplan videos for step 2 gyne , pedia ...etc along with your lectures ...
What i mean is try to hit two birds with one stone ..
And i really regret that i never read anything in college( which was 6 yrs too ) ,, so never waste your time ,, it's very precious ...
