I am having trouble understanding why flouroquinolones should not be given with antacids. I have read a couple of places, and some say it is because of the multivalent ions released by the antacids that interfere with Flouroquinolon absorption. Another source states it is due to the alkaline environment created by the antacid causing the weak acid (flouroquinolone) to release a proton and become charged, thus decreasing absorption across the neutral bilipid layer.

Any help is appreciated!
