When you see Fried Egg appearance in USMLE exam think of the following:

  • Mycoplasma Pneumoniae grew fried egg colonies in Eaton agar
  • Oligodendroglioma giving rise to chickenwire pattern and fried egg appearance of cells because of perinuclear hallo
  • Hairy cell leukemia with its hair like projections may give rise to fried egg appearance in bone marrow biopsy
  • Seminoma with it's clear cytoplasm and round nuclei may also give rise to fried egg appearance under the microscope
