Hi,

I am a medical student from Taiwan applying for HMS exchange. I am wondering if TOEFL score will affect the result of HMS elective placement. The website only says it requires a minimal score of 100. However, I am afraid that if I only pass the threshold, I will not be likely to be placed. Does anyone have an idea? or is there anyone have got the placement with only minimal TOEFL scores?
btw my preference list only includes IM and GS subjects at MGH or BWH in May. That is why I am so anxious...

Yeah, I am doing that rotation now and my TOEFL was 100. Do not worry about this and they will test your English during the telephone interview, and they choose you randomly.

However, I have to say that you have very low possibilities to be scheduled for a rotation since you only have 2 options and they are also very close to summer season. You have to understand this is Harvard and there are so many applicants.

From my understanding, during winter and spring seasons, you will get the highest possibilities to be scheduled a spot, especially in Jan. In Jan, you could even get some spots like MGH neurosurgery. The reason is that the US students won't do their away rotations at this time and there will be less persons to apply for those spots. But, still hope you have good luck and also apply for somewhere else.

I think I didn't make my point clear. I did fill in all 15 options, but most of them belonged to IM(like nephrology, hematology, neurology, cardiology, pulmonology etc) subjects in MGH or BWH. What I was afraid was that IM subjects in those hospitals were so popular that I could not be able to get placement. May I ask what subject are you doing now?
Still thank you very much for the response. I guess I wouldn't take TOEFL again for this application!

They give a crap about TOEFL score! As long as u have met the threshold I mean. Once u have 100, u can apply!
