A healthy subject receives an infusion of 2 L of isotonic saline. assuming no urine excretion, which of the following is the expected increase in the volume (in L) of the extracellular fluid compartment?
a. 0.3
b. 1.0
c. 1.3
d. 1.7
e. 2.0

Isotonic fluid does not effect intracellular volumes so all fluid will remain in extra cellular compartment and this will further distribute over a period of time to 3/4 interstitial, 1/4 plasma volume :)

i agree wid drz... coz the shifting of fluids at plasma membrane levels is under the influence of osmolar forces and not hydrostatic forces... while at capillary level its both oncotic and hydrostatic forces... so answer would be 2 L.... kindly post the correct answer soon and also the source of question...
