I am planning to apply to Florida Internationa Uni for an elective in Jan-March 2017. They state that the offer experience on an outpatient basis only. How will that affect my experience? Does it matter whether I've had more experience with inpatient departments or outpatient ones?

FIU doesn't only offer outpatient electives; it depends on which specialty you're doing the elective in. If you contact them via phone/email, they can send you all the paperwork. However, I'm attaching the PDF file just in case which has the description for each elective.
