is it too late to apply for step 1

Hi usmle forum members i am sooo worried abt my exam application process .....i am planing to take my exam in feb n i havent started the application process yet :( ....so i am planing on applying this week .....so my question is i heard ecfmg will be on holidays for certain time so when is it ?.....n my next q is ...is it too late to apply if i wanna give my exam in feb ? .....will there be seats available at the prometric centres ? :(

you should find seats but without your scheduling permit you can't proceed. Just make sure your school sends in your 186 on time. That is usually the roadblock. My school did it perfectly and it took about 4-6 weeks to get a scheduling permit and everything was done either online or by fedex so papers were delivered next day. It can be done, but its tight.

i think first 15 days of jan u cant apply for the exam. the application process depends on ur med school if u have to apply thru them. Mine took me 3 months to get the permit. once u get the permit u can fix the date n give the exam. its not so difficult to get a seat in prometric for step 1.

3 months is a looooong time. I just had my school send mine in for step 1 in april and cs in may. Didn't think it can take so long. That can back me up for sure. Oh well, more study time I guess.
