4776 Views 10 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Ryhm
I am using Kaplan Material 2003 edition, that I bought online.
Can anyone tell me how much out of date these materials are?
Will that effect my preparation for the exam alot?

Please advise:eek::eek:

Maybe...

They may be out of date, but trust me that you have a jewel beside you. I've been searching for that old version for so long now that it's not even funny. It has the great Dr. Lionel Raymon teaching biochem and I hear he does it beautifully. Not only him, but that older version had some good teachers that for whatever reason are not teaching in the newer versions. What I suggest you do is combine those with the newer ones (as long as time isn't an issue) and learn from the teachers that are recognized by other usmle-kaplan-forum gurus as the best and must see. If it's not possible then I suggest to compensate that older version with new editions of other support material like FA. Heck, i'd use them.

everyone is always concerned about "up to date" material.. The fact is medicine hasn't really changed at the core level. You have a great base in the Kaplan material, just use the question banks to find the newer relevant stuff. Use First Aid 2010 edition as well, that will give you an idea of what they have been testing recently.

I agree with what Peewee says. I have Kaplan Notes from 2004 and i just cross checked with 2010 version. From what I can see, there are barely any noticeable changes. Even the practice questions are the same. It may be either due to no major change in the basics as such or the new version is actually the old version with just the change of cover.

That sounds like an awesome way to do it, if I do say so myself! :D

Good luck in your studies, and don't be afraid to ask any question on here, everyone I've ever seen on here has always been really helpful!

kaplan 2008 lecture notes... good?

hi guys!

Mi step 1 exam es on agoust 31 2012,

I have Kaplan lecture notes 2008 (blue ones), FA 2012, and videos 2008 and 2010. Do you think I am ok with the 2008 lecture notes version? should I get the kaplan notes 2012? Should i watch both videos or just 2010?

I am confussed because some friend told me the notes have "changes a lot" , but I am not sure if those changes are worth 600 usd that will cost me buying the new lecture notes.

I just want to confirm.

Thnx in advance!

DONOT DO THIS.... I REFFERED TO OLDER BOOKS AND FAILED ONCE..
iv been a top student in med school. and had a very good grasp on most of the older notes etc...
i did KAPLAN NOTES 2004-5 AND FA 2009 USMLEWORLD 2010 (online)... i found uworld extremely tough.. with many points missing in kaplan notes...
the lectures no doubt are good.. but trust me even the minor things make a difference.. why do u want to take the chance??
even i read on multiple forums.. that medicine doesnt change.. which i agree.. but the greater details... newer advances.. newer ways of asking questions.... is best if you reffer to newer notes.. cos they are written and edited that way!

i gave my exam in december 2010

i spoke to many advisers after the result... and have studied again with the newer material and nbmes are predicting well... please donot commit the same mistake i did. please donot commit the same mistake i did.

DONT TAKE THE RISK!!

hello!!! My exam is for july 2012, and I'm using the lecture notes 2010, i really think you should use them too rather than 2008, i was told that a lot of changes have been made, and since you already have the videos, i don't mind sending you the notes, just give me your e-mail! (except anatomy, which i really can't find!!!)
and ... if you really have the 2012 FA, i would really appreciate if you send them to me, my email: [email protected]
