kaplan notes 2007 or 2010 or wait for 2011??

hi doctors..
i just started my studies for step 1.. with Anatomy from kaplan lecture notes .. the problem is that i have 2007 edition.. and i am planning to appear for the step 1 in late 2011 or early 2012.. so should i buy 2010 edition?? is there much difference between 2007 and 2010?? or should i wait for 2011 edition and until that i continue my 2007 notes??
and i have 2007 kaplan dvds as i got them from internet for free and i cant afford getting new dvds. so do u think 2007 dvds are fine or should i be worried abt getting latest dvds.????

and how many hours should i spend studying the basic subjects?? as i m in final year now and i also have to study those big medicine and surgery books, and i didn't really study the basic subjects with that interest so m not that good at 'em :notsure:

looks like it doesnt matter much for the notes.. so i will stick to wat i have..
wat abt the time management .. any advice?

this wont work.. i have different problem. its my college.. i have to go there and i spend 8 hours at my college and hospital postings.
so i have only 16 hours left. and i have to sleep, eat , study all in these 16 hours and other than that i also have to study my final year subjects .
i was wondering if anybody has had same problem , and he cud tell me some way to deal with this.

hmm as you are in final year..... i would suggest that although you can start your step 1 preparation now but you shouldn't in any way compromise your final year studies.

But the bigger question is when do you want to take the exam ......your entire strategy would depend on it.

My advice would be that you start your step 1 preparation right now slow and steady and think of taking step 1 after your final exams. And also try to incorporate step 2 books along with your final year preparation (nothing extra just use them as a review books) this would decrease the time you would otherwise spend while preparing for step 1.

Also as the format of the exam is becoming more and more clinical oriented ...this strategy will definitely help you in your step1 ...

As far as time management is concerned... it surely depends on your motivation and commitment. Certainly 16 hrs/day is not possible but You would probably require least 6-8 hrs/ day of studies as you would also need some time for your final year subjects.

One thing you can do is try using First Aid. Also you can listen to Goljan lectures, they will help your clinical subjects.

thanks step1an & donofitaly. so i'll focus mainly on my final year subjects and also giving sometime to step 1 subjects..
i am planning to go for step 1 after abt 1.5 to 2 years as my final year has just started a month ago.. and after i complete my final year i'll focus on step 1 subjects more..

In that case, i would really recommend you to listen to Goljan Audio lectures before starting any clinical lesson. The kind of integration and his teaching will clear your concepts (if they are not clear already). Also you will learn a bit of Physio, Pharmac and Biochemistry along with it. You are on the right track by planning ahead and getting to know the resources before hand.
