Hi guys, i'm in the last 40 days of my prep to for the exam. Already finished UWorld, revising the whole stuff these days ..

My question to u guys is -

i'm looking to do a Qbank for the last 20 days .. b4 the exam ...to get into the exam mode .. since i'm already through with UWorld .. .. which one would be the better choice -

Usmle consult or UsmleRx ??

- I knw from a friend of mine who did Rx for the last month - he told me that there is the advantage of taking a full 7 hr. block exam as well .. however, going by the reviews here, i can see usmleconsult becoming an emerging choice these days due to the quality of its questions.... And i hv no experience with consult ..

So ppl who hav done Consult or Rx .. plz put in ur inputs ..

Thnx

I prefer USMLE Consult

Both USMLERx and USMLE Consult are good. However, USMLE Consult is completely FRED 2.0 styled which means it gives a real exam experience just like UW while USMLERx interface is not FRED 2.0 and therefore it's not a good idea to do it while you are on your final weeks of prep.

yup consult is good bank....but its impossible to complete in 20 days(atleast for me...i thought of completing in 20 or 25 days...its been 20 days n i hv done only 1000/2700 Qs...:()
explanations are too long.....:(..ya but make concept clear....:)
if u want only for practice..go ahead....

What about Kaplan? I'm in the same exact situation as the original poster, and I thought Kaplan Qbank is the second choice after UW, or is it not? :notsure:
Usually What%20about%20Kaplan?%20I%27m%20in%20the%20same%20exact%20situation%20as%20the%20original%20poster,%20and%20I%20thought%20Kaplan%20Qbank%20is%20the%20second%20choice%20after%20UW,%20or%20is%20it%20not?%20[/QUOTE]"]Kaplan's the first choice - ie: learn your concepts from Kaplan (material and then Qbank) - THEN, test yourself / refine your concepts with UW. If you're done done UW - like explanations and everything, then only you move to a 3rd bank like Consult.

We use the qbanks more like textbooks than actual things that test our knowledge because the way the exam is - reading the actual textbooks is a time consuming and tricky process and doesn't necessarily guide us the right way to think to be successful on the USMLE. In fact, the argument that the NBME (those that make the USMLE) makes is that you'll be a better doctor if you think like the qbanks and like the USMLE instead of memorizing books because it's more like real life. I don't know how true that is, but the current exam is the result of years and years of criticism from all sides that the exam and real medicine had nothing to do with each other and that textbooks and real medicine had nothing to do with each other. So, the NBME changed the exam - the textbooks on the other hand are still textbooks.

So, yeah- do Kaplan Qbank to reinforce and test yourself after the first read of their material. Then, do UW, because now you've moved on to "real USMLE" type situations but not quite yet. Do an NBME - that will tell you how much you really absorbed and then finally - to get those points which keep you from getting *every* question right - do a third bank like Consult.

Anyway, that's my rant - it's a condensed version of stuff I heard from both sales people and professors of mine who recently (within 10 years) took the step 1 for what its worth. Hope that helps :)

Kaplan Qbank also has tricky questions so if you haven't done it you definitely should but Consult is sort a 3rd bank after you've done the "must haves - Kaplan and UW" There's also a strong recommendation to do USMLERx if you don't feel like doing Consult but most people wouldn't replace KaplanQbank with either consult or Rx and instead would add on.

But yes - Consult does have some tricky ones - Khushboo's been posting many of the more difficult concept ones here :)
