I've seen a question in the other forum and I though let me repeat it here and see what you guys think.

Can I be a licensed physician if I just complete Step 3 and one year of training such as transitional or prelim residency!

Would they provide NPI and DEA#s

That would be interesting if the answer is yes.

Yes you can but ....

Yes. For AMGs it's only one year of post graduate training and for IMGs it's two years of post graduate training needed to get the State license (this is in most of the states, but some states are exempt such as California).

You will also get your NPI and DEA numbers right when you join residency to get the physician in training permit.

However, the real question is, who will give you a job? I'd 99% of medical employers require that you are at least board eligible if not board certified.

You will also get into trouble with malpractice insurance and medicare reimbursements and some other federal stuff.

So I don't see it as a brainy idea to leave residency after one year of training.
