Here's how

Since you'll be finishing your MBBS and be a medical graduate then you won't be eligible for Electives or Clerkships.

You will be eligible to do either observerships or externships.

To understand the difference between these two please read here
http://www.usmle-forums.com/externs...s/108-externship-observership-difference.html

To look for observership I suggest you read the threads listed here

To look for externships I suggest you read the threads listed here

I heard that clerkship carries more weight than the other two. So I would like to do it before December. What do I do?

I contacted some agents, they told me it will be 609$/wk. my friend told me that it can b done for 3004/wk if u go directly through the hospital without the agents!
can u help me... :D
Yes, correct

Yes, you are right. Doing clerkships is more significant than observership and externships.

Yes, you are right. You cannot do clerkship once you hold your graduation diploma therefore do it now.

No, I don't think that agents will be costing you less than if you go directly.

Anyway, if you are looking for agents here's the poll in which members have voted;

If you are looking for direct links have a look here;

I will be happy to help you with clinical enrollment. Please bare in mind that if you are preparing for the 2011 Match there is a significantly low number of available positions (if any) left. I will be happy to help you
ok thanx.. i wil decide my dates n get back to u..
Electives are done during the internship yr. of India Medical Colleges.

Hey Srinath,
You are in Final MBBS and will be doing your internship next year, right? Internship in India = Final year of Medical School. Because, you graduate and get your degree after internship. Hence, you will be eligible to do electives during your internship, after your final MBBS exam.
I'm in the same boat. Final MBBS. Want to do electives next year. I didn't even know there are commercial agents for electives!

hi srinath, prateek and others here,
i am from india.. in my 9th semester of m.b.b.s... i.e my fourth year..
i have heard and researched a lot about doing electives in the final year (internship) of medicine.. but i dont know how feasible it is as i have not given my usmle step1. i plan to give my usmle step 1 after completing my internship.. i.e in 2012. i am in a dilemma whether to go ahead and apply for electives now.. or to wait till i give my usmle step1 and go for an externship. i dont know anyone in the u.s to help me regarding this.. kindly advise.

Although it depends on your particular personal circumstances. But the general advice is that doing electives while still a student is highly regarded and easier to get than doing externships after you graduate.

Certainly doing your electives while in Medical School (if possible) is a great option. Our program offers clinical electives for students, interns, or graduates :)
