Malpractice/Liability Insurance and Health insurance for USCE

Approximately all universities require malpractice health insurances.
From where to get them?are they in the same package?

Most universities require proof of them at time of application although universities do not guarantee any elective or desired elective.

But insurance companies require department, period & place of elective (that are not guaranteed as mentioned above). How to deal with that?

(i.e if I buy insurance for surgery in X university, then during processing of applications X university informs me that I can do only internal medicine elective or nothing:eek:-not a second choice-how to deal with that?)

You can change

As far as I know is that by the time the University is asking you a proof of insurance then they'll definitely accept you so you won't be in the dilemma of having to cancel it or change it later on.

Even if you did change the department after buying the liability insurance I think it's very easy to contact the insurance company and ask them to change the specialty.

No, that's not equivalent.
The travel medical insurance will cover you when you get sick in US.
The medical liability insurance is something else, it's to cover the expenses that the hospital will pay if a patient filed a claim against you if you do something wrong while doing the elective. For example, if you give a wrong advice and the patient followed your instructions and got into health problems he/she will then sue the hospital. If you are not insured you will then be paying thousands of dollars.

But, by the way your travel medical insurance might sometimes be a requirement by some universities because they are responsible for you while you are doing the elective and they don't want to end up paying your health problems expenses should you have diabetes or got into accident for example, so check with the university/clinic policy.
Thanx for reply, but I did not ask about malpractice(medical liability) that you explained.
I asked if health insurance=travel insurance.
Since I found a local company that provides travel insurance which includes medical expenses & hospitalization abroad & emergency dental treatment.
then it's optional

OK, in that case I think it's optional unless they specifically require it. Many travelers do not buy health insurance when they come to US.

Thanx for help. Most universities if not all, require both Malpractice & Health insurances. I think the best way is to ask each university directly if my travel insurance=health insurance.
Logically, the travel one includes medical expenses...etc

Medical Malpractice Insurance

I believe most of the universities when you register they will give you a contact number for an medical malpractice insurance specialist. They might have schools rates as well with them. I got mine through Emedmal.
I am planning on doing an elective in Temple University, they don't provide malpractice insurance. I am supposed to find it myself, unfortunately I can't find any, tried many places.

Please I need your help asap
I'd suggest www.hpso.com there's lot of positive feedback about them
I contacted them, they said they don't provide malpractice insurance for students !!!!
Any other suggestions ?

Hi
At Future-Doc we have insurance for all of our participants. We pay for it and it covers any of our students that we list. If your department changes or your rotation changes we keep record of that and notify appropriately. Also the coverage is month to month. See if the places you go have that.
