Good is relative, ALL programs either Uni Vs Community, Prematch Vs Match, Predominantly IMG's Vs AMG's, follow the ACGME requirements including the work load expected (not exceeding 80 or 85 hrs per wk), didactics, exam preparation etc, what's the problem with PreMatch? They aren't good programs?
some programs are really malignant of what i have hear . especially in NY. My prematch was really good one. its different and personal why I went through match. I m pretty sure I will get to a very good program.Good is relative, ALL programs either Uni Vs Community, Prematch Vs Match, Predominantly IMG's Vs AMG's, follow the ACGME requirements including the work load expected (not exceeding 80 or 85 hrs per wk), didactics, exam preparation etc,
so whats the difference?
in terms of hospital setting: new facilities , VA vs Non VA, numbers of beds, number of referral etc which affects your exposure some programs are predominantly focused on a certain demographical population, others got much of cultural diversity hence boosting your experience.
In terms of research activities some are less others are powerhouses.
Faculty: quantity and quality, resident / faculty ratio etc hence mentorship.
Location big vs small city, urban vs rural etc
atmosphere: diverse in terms of ethnicity background, cultural vs predominant one directional culture.
These are small portions of what major factors that you need to test before taking a decision, so the take away message its all about whats good for YOU.
Prematch means securing your position early, sometimes on the expense of these factors stated above.
