When I read Goljan Rapid Review (2007 and 2009), and even his audio, he say that primary lung cancer is the most common metastasis to liver, followed by colon and breast.

But First Aid says that the following are the most common metastasis to liver : Colon > Stomach > Pancreas > Breast > Lung. They even have a mnemonic for it " Cancer Sometimes Penetrates Benign Liver.

So which is the most common metastasis to liver? Or did I miss-interpret 1 of the sources?

Most common primary malignant tumors leading to Liver metastasis

Here I quote for you the emedicine article

"The liver may be the site of metastasis from virtually any primary malignant neoplasm, but the most common primary sites are the colon, stomach, pancreas, breast, and lung.
In children, the most common liver metastases are from a neuroblastoma, a Wilms tumor, or leukemia."

I think FA is more accurate in this regard. It's logical for GI organs to be listed first as they drain via the portal system to the liver.

Most comm . malig. tumors leading to liver mets.

I agree with Steptaker and the answer is based on the drainage via porta . FA has the answer .
