Hi ..I know none of you work at the usmle and no one can say .. but just in comparison with mistakes of ppl who passed .. what do u think ? I am not sure if these mistakes are enough for someome to fail
1-forgot to tell the pt about DRE but wrote it in the notes
2-i think I nailed it
3- no clue about the dx .. I just wrote random things that I thought could be related
4- the case was so simple and obvious that I couldn't reproduce the ddx ! I only wrote the dx without 2 differentials
5-forgot to ask about heat intolerance (one of my ddx was hypeethyrodism)
6-forgot to do a thyroid exam (one of my ddx was hypothydrodism)
7-forgot to do cranial nerve exam in a neuro case
8 - did a closure but didnt have time to answer the challenging question.. didnt write Family hx in note
9-forgot to ask an important question in a telefon encounter but got everything else (hopefully) right
10- nailed it (I think)
11-only wrote 2 ddx .. didnt write occupation and menstrual hx of a female
12-i I forgot to tie the gown but remembered during the closure and tied it and apologized for that. .forgot one important diagnostic study .. only had 2 ddx

I am not sure if I should be happy bcz I am finished from this exam or I should be sad because I did alot of mistakes as you see ..and the other thing is that I am not sure if these are the only mistakes bcz every hour I remember a mistake !! it was my first usmle exam and that made it somehow difficult for me

What do u think ? Thank you

Yes every thing is in FA except for the third case which I dont think u r gonna find in any other source
So my advice dont bother yourself with any other source .. everything is gonna be there .. the problem is that I forgot becz of the nervousness !for example during my practice the 1st question that I used to ask in any pt where I suspect hyperthyroidism is "heat intolerance" .. in the exam while I was typing the note for that case where one of my ddx was hyperthyroidism .. I realised that I forgot to ask that question and I couldn't believe myself !!
Thank u for ur input .. hopefully I pass (really still worried lol !)

Yes in phili .. amazing guys there .. sp were also really great ....the hotel is 2 minutes away walking from the center..everything was nice .. I was worried about the rumors there that it is a bad center but I found it nice and even if I failed (hopefully not) I will re-take it in phili again.

You should pass. Most of your mistakes are fairly benign. Which site did you take it at?
I discovered that i screwed the DDx for another case , I thought that i got them right but I discovered that they were wrong. and thats literally killing me !

Thank you for your input :)
i took it in phili

How were your notes, general patient interaction, counseling, etc?
If everything else was good, your mistakes don't sound major, so don't stress too much! (easier said then done)

my general patient interaction was good, I didnt have any pt who got angry, none of them asked me to repeat or clarify anything, I completed every case on time except one case, I had 3 patients who when I asked them if you have any question, they told me: well I wanted to ask you about this but it was covered in my closure, i felt they were happy and satisified so i am not really stressed about CIS, and SEP compenets, my major concern is the ICE component: because I forgot alot of investigation, I forgot to do some important things in physical exam, and got the dx wrong for 2 cases ! so I think I failed ICE :( 2 days to know :plz::plz:

I honestly think you're going to be fine (for my sake, because my mistakes were much worse).
you dont need to be perfect with the diagnoses nor the PE. How was your PN - from what i understand that's the most important part of ICE (as the information gathering "check-list" is supposedly done from your note by the physician grader).
Running out of time on a case or two shouldnt be a big deal (I got cut off on my closure for about 4 patients, but dont forget, its the overall experience) - just because you left one sentence out at the end, doesnt mean you didnt get credit for everything else you did!

Step 2 CS Experience

Good morning everyone,

I recently took my Step 2 CS exam and am very concerned about if I passed or not. I am not trying to brag, but I felt like I did well on my CIS and SEP components being kind, compassionate, and speaking proper English. I am only really worried about my ICE component :/

Regarding my ICE component, I did the following:
1. Gathered as much HPI, ROS, PMH, Allergies, Meds, Past Surgical Hx, Family Hx, Occupational Hx, Social Hx, etc. info as I could from the patient within the allotted time.
2. Physical exam was focused but was not perfect. I wasn't spectacular. Just did very basic stuff.
3. Counseled on majority of patients but not as much as I wanted to.
4. After physical exam, I gave patients my impressions and possible diagnostic studies. Told patient that I couldn't give an exact diagnosis, only a possibility and that I would have to run some tests to figure out what's going on. The info was so vague that to be honest I could only come up with one diagnosis, sometimes a maximum of 2.
5. I closed all 12 encounters.
6. On patient note, I was detailed as possible in every section. My only concerns are that the Physical exam section of the note was pretty much complete except missing some minor stuff and few mistakes in terms of medical terminology as well as i felt like I might have missed some physical maneuvers. On patient note, I usually had 1-2 diagnoses, but usually one and there were a mixture of medical and non-medical terms with few words for history and physical exam findings (I felt like my diagnoses were within the ball park, but not the exact diagnosis for a good amount. Most of my diagnoses were within the ball park so I hope they won't fail me for that). My Diagnostic studies were pretty much complete as I stuck with basic tests except I felt like I might have missed 1 or 2 important tests.

Will I fail the ICE component because of what I had mentioned :/ ?
Will I fail the ICE component because I had 1-2 diagnoses, usually only 1 and the back up findings were few words for the history and physical exam findings and even that the diagnoses were within the ballpark, not the exact except for a few cases where I knew the actual diagnosis because it was so obvious?

Has anyone else faced the same dilemma like I am facing and still passed the exam?

Any feedback greatly appreciated
