Hi people,
I am an IMG and started studying for Step 1 in 01/2013. I work as a Medical assistant and some days I was only able to study 3-4 hours a day , however I used my weekends and managed to study 14 hours both saturday and sunday. I finished Kaplan QBank and my score was 68% , I started UW 2/18/15 and got a 71% I took NBME 7 first and scored 390/206...I took NBME 11 2 weeks later and scored 430/213 which made me feel better.
I took NBME 12 and went down to 202 and a week later took NBME 13 and got 205. I didn´t know what was happening, so I decided to not do a second round of UW and start reading FA and pathoma again with videos. I took UWSA 1 and got 238 which boosted my confidence. So after UWSA1 (238) I studied two more weeks and took UWSA 2 and got 232. I took the prometric practice exam and got 80%, it helped me to decrease my level of anxiety.
So I took NBME 17 4 days before my exam and got a 224...I finally took Step 1 on 5/29/15. The exam was VERY LONG, I was exhausted after 8 hours, my vision even became blurry...I honestly recommend UWORLD to anyone , UW+FA are enough.
I waited 8 weeks for my score and today THANKS TO GOD I passed with a 234!!!
For all of you out there doubting yourselves , thinking you won’t make it…YOU CAN DO IT. I had to work and study , had to sleep 3 hours a night my last month…but I made it and so can you.
Thanks to the members of this forum , I really needed the encouragement. Best of luck!!:D:D:D:D

you said you took nbme after every 2 weeks my question is how much were you able to cover in 2 weeks? you took nbme with covering only half of firstaid in 2 weeks? please write in detail how you did

and when you took uwsa your score increased how much first aid and pathoma you did when you took uwsa all of it or half way
i want to correct my studying with your suggestions

So to answer your questions...
I did take an NBME every 2 weeks and what I did in between was revise topics real quick, basically the ones I had a low performance on. For example on my first NBME Biochem was low so I did Biochem and respiratory , I did not look at the high performance subjects because I knew I would be able to get questions right on the real thing.
I mainly used FA , UW notes and pathoma ...MORE THAN ENOUGH. No need to go to kaplan lecture notes , at least I never did.

Ok so the first thing to do is to lift your head up , remember it is JUST AN NBME not the real deal and you have time to achieve your target score...that was what I told myself before continuing. I recommend that you revise the NBME answers , read the low performance subjects real quick , don't take long...and then try doing another NBME in 1 or 2 weeks. Also I did UW in between NBMEs while I was reading FA , it's the perfect combo. I can't stress enough on the importance of pathoma!!!

I had revised almost all of FA before UWSA , I took it almost towards the end of my preparation.

Trust me , your level of concentration on the day of the exam is 105% so you will raise your score. You must be very calm , you must rest well the night before ...I did study the day before until 3pm then I went to the jacuzzi of the hotel I was staying at , relaxed , had some tea...At that point feeling relaxed is the most important thing!
Best of luck!!!;)
