I was also confused with same thing but now its clear...
In omphalocele there is defect in abdominal muscle development, it occurs at umbilicus, n most important contents r covered with peritoneal sac
It is associated with trisomy 13 or 18, also some cardiac defect...

Where as in gastorschisis abdominal muscles r developed normally but there is defect in fusion of muscles , contents herniates through this defect mostly between 2 occurs on rt of umbilicus,contents r not covered with peritoneal sac
Its not asso with any other abnormality Main etiology being for gastroschisis is abnormal fusion of lateral body folds

Regarding vitelline duct persistence its entirely different pathology there may be total persistence with passage of meconium or it can be mackle's diverticulum or a fibrous band causing obstruction
