On routine evaluation, a 52-year-old woman is found to have a serum calcium level of 12.2 mg/dL and an elevated serum parathyroid hormone level. On further questioning, she admits to daily muscle pain that has been increasing
in intensity. The most likely cause of her condition is which one of the following?
(A) Ectopic parathyroid tissue
(B) Multiple adenoma
(C) Parathyroid carcinoma
(D) Parathyroid hyperplasia
(E) Single adenoma

Is it E!

The most common cause of hyperparathyroidism is a single adenoma I believe.

What's the answer!
