You are absolutely right. I was a typo and I apologize for it. Now I corrected it to hemidesmosome not desmosome. Certainly patients with bullous pemphigoid have their basal epidemis chopped off the basement membrane because of non-function hemidesmosome not intercellular desmosome.A great thread, though I read that bullous pemphigoid antibodies are against hemidesmosomes, exactly against BP-220 part. I read this in FA 2009, and rechecked in Davidson's medicine.
Another thing that might be added is that the bullae in bullous pemphigoid are tense, they're friable and fragile in pemphigus vulgaris.
