I am an IMG passed long time back. I am preparing for step1 using UW and FA. I have done UW 3-4 times and can do nearly 90% questions correct on it . I also took UWorld self assessments test 2 weeks back with a score of 240. yesterday I took NBME 12 with a score of 310 and corresponding usmle score of 188...feeling depressed with totally shattered confidence. How should I start studying again and what to study?? how can I improve?

Hi
Its ok to feel that way every1 does..........even me......every1 doing this has gone through the phase which you're experiencing right now its NORMAL

Look my advice will be go through that nbme see what you did wrong focus on the stuff you are weak in according to that nbme get a good grip in that subject for example if the nbme says your weak in respi then work on it read from UW fa brs patho etc

You can do this :)

so it means we should not relay on our uwsa score. nbme is more predictive?

I can think of 2 things, either you just had a bad NBME and its not reflective of your prep, or doing UWorld 3-4 times has made you memorize its Qs rather than strengthen your knowledge and its application to solve the questions; and your score there is no longer reliable. If the former, giving another NBME, this time making sure there are no distractions, or lack of sleep etc, should give you a higher score. A low score would mean the latter and probably doing an FA review quickly using DIT might help. And since, Uworld is no longer forcing you to solve new questions, you might want to go through kaplan Qbank.

I am doing my first read of FA with DIT as well and as of yet, find it effective. Along with this, I'm also doing brosencephalon's Anki deck(although only a few cards a day), and also going slowly through Uworld(5-10 Qs a day). I think its helping, but thats what I think; I haven't really evaluated my prep in a while now.

Hi, thanks for the advice. I will surely test my knowledge on other q banks. I have realized that because of the time constraint I try to rush through the questions..do not read them fully at times...because when I went through the questions that I did wrong on NBME..I did not have to search for the correct answers on most of them as with a careful reading I knew the answers...I just have to improve my test taking strategies and not be too anxious of performing well and avoid jumping to the answer without fully reading what's being asked....thanks anyway your thoughts did set me thinking where do I stand....repetition of UW did help me memorize many topics and ofcourse questions too..but UWSA is not a repetition of UWQB.
