Information about prematch
When you apply through ERAS for the regular match season you will then be called for interviews.
In the interviews the committee may like you enough so that they offer you a prematch. Which means they ask you to withdraw from the match and sign a contract with them directly.
A prematch is specially good if you have few interviews or when you suspect that you will be ranked by any other program.
Many IMGs are accepting prematch offers nowadays to avoid the headache of going through the regular match and nullify any associated risks.
Taking a prematch means that you are guaranteed a residency program but it also means that you lose the chance of perhaps getting a better a residency program.
