I recently gave my step one and scored 251. My med school is about to end. I have a clinical elective in Herbert Wertheim College of medicine (florida international university). I will give my CS in april and CK in the end of june. I wanted to know that what would be the probablity of getting a match in internal medicine with just one LOR,considering that HWCOM is not a big name. Should i apply for the match this year or should i wait and get more observerships and letters?
thank you
good score but it all depends on what you want.
If you want to a high end university program? forget about it.. Community or low to mid level university? you have a very good chance, provided you complete CK and CS successfully and have all your scores by September 15th next year.
You can also get multiple LOR's in a single rotation, just let the attendings know by the end of your first week (after they got to know you) that you will like a Letter from them and that you will work your hardest to earn it.
Applying is very expensive, and very risk-reward. Is it worth sitting out a year for more experience? Veeery hard to say, in YOUR specific situation i think being a recent graduate is more important.
If i were you i would try to get at least 2 LOR's in that observership and complete all your exams (step 3 isnt neccesary) and apply september this year.
If you apply smartly you will get at least 10 interviews (assuming you do a good CK and CS)
