Question/Item Number 5; Have you ever submitted an application to the NBME?

29785 Views 22 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  Rizzvi
A couple of my friends had doubts about question number 5 while applying to USMLE Step 1 or USMLE Step 2 CK or USMLE Step 2 CS using ECFMG's IWA Website.

That question is asking whether we had previously applied to any USMLE exam through NBME and here's a screenshot

Regardless of whether you did apply to another step before or not. You have to answer NO to this question if you are an IMG.

This is simply asking you ever had used the NBME website to register for an exam earlier. Obviously all of IMGs did not use the NBME website and that question should be answered NO.

USMLE EXAM APPLICATION(item#5)please help..

What should i answer in following item,as i applied for step 1 before but my application got rejected due to ink mismatch on form 183..??

Item 5. Other Examination History and Applicant Number

Have you ever submitted an application to the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) for a Part or Step examination?
Yes

No

Note: If you previously submitted an application to NBME, you must answer "Yes" to this question, even if you submitted the application under a different name or if you did not take the exam for which you applied. If you do not answer this question accurately, this may result in a finding of irregular behavior. See Irregular Behavior in the ECFMG Information Booklet.
If you have previously submitted an application to the National Board of Medical Examiners® (NBME®) for a Part or Step examination, you must answer "Yes" to this question, even if you submitted the application under a different name or if you did not take the exam for which you applied.

If you answer "Yes" and you know the Identification Number issued to you, enter the Identification Number in the space provided.

If you have never previously submitted an application to NBME, you should answer "No."

If you do not answer this question accurately, this may result in a finding of irregular behavior. See Irregular Behavior in the ECFMG Information Booklet.

Dear Doctor,

Please be advised that item number 5 in the USMLE® application refers to an identification number that would have been issued to an American or Canadian medical school student by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME®) through which organization these students would be registered for the USMLE examinations. If this situation does not refer to you, you should answer "No."

Sincerely,

i think i made that mistake, i took CS first during my final year of med school,(im an IMG), then later when i applied for step 1 I checked yes and gave my usmle ID under the impression that i had to provide details of previous examinations. Now im about to fill the online application for step 2 CK, what should i do now? Thanx in advance to anybody who can help!
What if, if I have said yes to that option which was meant to be no???
can anything be done about it now because I just filled my CS application after taking step 1 and I thought it was 'yes' to that question!!!
Yes, same here...

What if I've answered "yes"... what is going to happen? Do I still have to call them? How is this going to affect me?

I made the same mistake. I answered YES to item 5 and put my ECFMG number in the space provided, but nothing unusual happened and my application went through and I got registered.

After going through this post, I have emailed them to correct my records. They will reply in 15 business days time. Lets see what they say.

Dear Doctor,

Please be advised that entering your USMLE®/ECFMG® in item 5 of the application will not cause a discrepancy with your application. Please note however that
item number 5 in the USMLE® application refers to an identification number that would have been issued to an American or Canadian medical school student by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME®) through which organization these students would be registered for the USMLE examinations. If this situation does not refer to you, you should answer "No" in the future.

NES "

So even if we as IMGs enter it as YES by mistake we can change it the next time when we apply for another step. Its only for AMGs.
