can damagae of posterior hypophysis produce permanent diabetes insipidus?
please explain your answer.
hint.... pituitary stalk

the answer is no
damage to posterior hypophysis causes only transient DI since ADH can still circulate via pituitary stalk
ADH is synthesized in hypothalamus, specifically in paraventricular and supro-optic nuclei
[under normal circustances] after synthesis, ADH is transported to posterior pituitary for the storage to be released into circulation later
