1. So I'm planning on taking the Step 2 CS and CK before the Step 1 - this is allowed, right?

2. The following is a list of the books I am planning on using for the CK, please advise me as to how I can change this if you feel my list isn't appropriate or ideal.

-Kaplan Lecture Notes on IM, Surgery, Psych, Paeds, OBGYN
-Kaplan QBANK
-First Aid To the Step 2 CK
-USMLE World (closer to the time of my exam)

Much appreciated.

hi

I can say your list of books are complete, but don't forget that you must know word to word of contents, do you have enough time to review them more and more, for more information please refer to polls like:

You think First Aid is needed for USMLE Step 2 CK Preparation?
is First Aid an integral part of CK prep?

You can find above polls and issues like them at first page of usmle-forums, Find the USMLE Polls Tab above

good luck

Thanks all for your help and advice.

Honestly, I don't think I will ever be able to read them so much that I will know them word for word.

Not only am I a final year med student in England and have to study for 2 sets of final exams in the next year (Jan '11, May '11), but I just don't think I am ever going to be good enough to know EVERYTHING in all of those books. Just doesn't seem possible for me. I don't understand how people get high 99 scores - I don't think I can realistically aim as high as that. That being said, I will of course try to get as high a score as possible, and will probably need to be aiming for as high a score in the 90s as I can get for both CK and CS as I am sure my Step 1 score when I eventually do take it will be lower.

Well , if you want to go for Step 2 CK first than please before starting your preparation , go through Goljan Pathology at least twice ..
I took Step 1 in May 2010. got 93 / 219 . Now I am preparing for Step 2 , n believe me at least 40% of questions in Step 2 Kaplan Qbook , can be solved only by good knowledge of Pathology .
So i wish you all the best for your preparation , but do consider my advise.
