A 15 year old boy from Michigan developed severe right lower abdominal pain and fever.
Blood culture revealed this growth

The causative agent illustrated has which of the following characteristics?
a- Goagulase positive
b- Produces heat stable enterotoxin
c- May also causes rectal prolapse
d- Can be grown on TCBS (Thiosulfate Citrate Bile salt Sucrose) medium
e- Is sexually transmitted

Yes correct,
this is yersinia enterocolitica which causes pseudoappendicitis clinical picture and it produces heat stabel enterotoxin.

choice A: yersinia pestis is coagulase positive but not enterocolitica
choice C: rectal prolapse is caused by whipworm
choice D: TCBS is for vibrio
choice E: It's not sexually transmitted but fecal-oral transmission
