Think its CMV
What makes you think its CMV? why not Rubella?
All the signs points to TORCH complex. Toxoplasma gondii known to cause intraventricular calcification. Rubella - cataract and deafness CMV - hearing loss But I'll go with Toxoplasma bcoz of the classic traid consisting of chorioretinitis, intraventricular calcification and hydrocephalus... What is the correct ans..???

its majorly because of the periventricular calcification as well as the chorioretinitis though rubella causes deafness it rarely causes calcifications

I would go with CMV as well. Aren't the calcifications diffuse in congenital toxoplasmosis?

I had a question that was along the same lines as the one posted.

A newborn has multiple hemorrhagic cutaneous lesions and does respond to auditory stimuli. A CT scan of the head shows periventricular calcifications. Which of the following did the newborn's mother most likely develop during the first 16 weeks of gestations?

A) A 3-day rash
B) Generalized lymphadenopathy
C) Painless genital ulcers
D) Transient arthralgia
E) Vesicular genital lesions

Where did you get this qn? looks very tough!!

I'll go with A) A 3-day rash
Coz, CMV resemble signs of rubella in rare cases.

B

CMV has Sx similar to Mononucleiosis. So I'd go with Generalized Lymphadenopathy.

I think I'd choose "B. Generalized lymphadenopathy" as well - the innocuous "flu-like symptoms" that seem to go with everything. I didn't know about it sometimes presenting like rubella, though, I'll have to remember that...

B) Generalized lymphadenopathy

Yes, Mondoshawan and usmle0987 are absolutely right. CMV can cause Generalized lymphadenopathy.

I agee with you guys.
Sorry for the late reply, but the correct answer is indeed B.) generalized lymphadenopathy.

This is a kaplan question, here is the explanation.

The triad of cutaneous hemorrhages "blueberry muffin baby", deafness, and periventricular CNS calcifications suggests congenital CMV infection, the most common cause of intrauterine fetal viral infection.
