Hi everybody! Just wanted to share my experience... I'm an IMG from Switzerland that graduated 5 months ago.

Directly after my finals in August 2016, I went on with step 2 CK without much preparation but a single Uworld self assessment... Didn't know what I was getting myself into, a friend of mine told me it was doable that way. Got my results back 4 weeks later: 226. Looking back I'm really disappointed cause I could have done much better by studying specifically for this test. Anyway, what is done is done.

Took a break in September and decided to go straight away with step 1 at the beginning of October... Planned to do it in 4 months at first (full-time). I was quite discouraged because it looked like you needed a good 6 months to get ready for step 1. Forums were so depressing...
I started studying with the Kaplan books for about 1.5 months working 5 days per week. I then started Uworld and FA. Surprisingly, I got between 60-80% average on Uworld after being done with Kaplan. That's when I decided it would be nice to spend Christmas with 0 stress and planned my exam for mi-December (instead of end of January/beginning of February).

I therefore spent the last month reading FA in the morning and doing as many questions as possible on Uworld in the afternoon. (No need to say I also started working on weekends).

Uworld overall average: 75% (did around 50% of all questions)
UWSA1: 249
UWSA2: 250 (both within the last 2 weeks)

Did my best during this last month and I was really happy when I saw today that my score result was 250 Happy-2 !

Anyway, I wrote this new thread so people would know you can actually do step 1 in less time than 6 months (of course it's easier if you have just graduated... fresh new IMG :))
Don't hesitate to ask questions if you need any more info!

Congrats! Thank you for your post. This is refreshing to read as there were many reports of low scores received today on other forums. I have a few questions for you if you don't mind.

1) Would you say that the questions were more similar to Kaplan QBank, NBME, or UWorld?

2)Did you also solve questions while going thru Kaplan videos or did you wait until you finished all Kaplan videos?

3)Are Kaplan lecture notes necessary or are Kaplan videos enough? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your message!

1) I only used UWorld so can't really answer this question. However, I found UWorld questions quite similar to the real exam in terms of length and structure... Overall, UWorld questions were harder (pickier, asking about small things buried in FA) where the real step 1 exam was more on "general" facts. (not saying it is a walk in the park though).
UWorld helped me so much! It's a must do...

2-3) I never went through Kaplan videos. Only read the 7 books. I read them during the first and a half month, not trying to memorize everything but just to place the context of the exam... Wasn't doing question banks at that time. I started at the end of reading the Kaplan books and did 2-3 blocks of UWorld in the afternoons for about a month (such long afternoons :p).
As an IMG I think it is quite difficult to start directly with FA because you literally have no idea what the exam is about and how to apprehend it. I think Kaplan books were a bridge between day 1 of studying and starting learning ++ from First Aid. I feel that 80% of the knowledge I got for the exam came from FA but I couldn't have done it without the Kaplan books.

I hope I was clear enough in my answers :p

Flashcards Microbiology and Pharmacology Step 1

By the way, here are some files you can download that also helped ++. They are "flashcards" for microbiology and pharmacology. I would do about 5 cards (back and front) every day until the exam.

Any thing you could advise me as well? I am struggling with the final prep for step 1?
Hi!
Hard to say ;) I think you should be as consistent as possible with what you've been doing so far. If you see results, just keep going! At the end I think UWorld is the way to go.
when is your exam date?
Best of luuuuck!

Hi, thank you for your inspiring post. I would just like to ask, how many months were you able to finish your FA? and, do you still have your Kaplan books, any chance of selling them? thank you!
