Hello people,

I just received my step 1 score and was wondering if 225/97 is good enough for an IMG.

I am not very happy with my three digit score. :notsure:

Depends on what type of specialty your going in for and the situation your in... Have you done clinicals in the US before? Are you trying to get a residency from a different country? I only got a 212(89) on my usmle which i got my results last week.. But my clinical's occurs in the US in either chicago or atlanta so i have the opportunity to already meet with residents to show if im good or not.. i sure as hell know im better than a 212.. my scores were up in the 224-240 range!

But to answer your question. Your scores are more than enough... But it also depends on the situation in which you are trying to get into the US also... IF your straight up signing up for residency or whatever from another country with only your grades. You have a pretty good chance to get a placement somewhere... If you already done clinicals in the US... Then your chances are very very strong.

I'm going for a clerkship in Pediatrics at Weill Cornell next month and in the future I would like to apply for a residency in Peds only.
I hope this will improve my chances. Would like to know your views on it.

Thank you so much for the reply :)

New york wow, congrats to you!

The average mark it seems in terms of Pediatrics for US seniors is a mark 217. Your mark is 225! your chances are very good. Heres the Link to there USMLE average thing that im refering to (Its also in the 2010 version of First Aid on page 12) http://www.nrmp.org/data/chartingoutcomes2007.pdf

But there is an increasing number of hospitals that are looking at your step 2 scores more than the step 1 scores now. But doing your clerkship in new york absolutely boosts your chances! If they like you, they till put you on the top of there Match choice!

So make sure to do well on your Step 2 Also!

This is definitely attainable. Your score is awesome.

Apart from super highly competitive specialties (such as plastic, neurosurgery, ENT) no residency program put a filter higher than 95. So if you apply to pediatrics your score will put you at the top of their list, no doubt about it.

Congratulations for the great score

please share your detail experience..
best of luck for future :D
Hi there,
Here is how I prepared.
Started my prep 4 in September.
Kaplan notes - 1 read in 1.5 month
UW subscription for 2 months (did twice) 71%
Quick review of Kaplan and read FA side by side. Added noted to FA- 1 month
FA revision - 1 month
NBME form 7 (2 weeks prior) 500/223 score
Revision of weak subjects.

THE REAL DEAL

couldn't sleep the night before. Severe headache in the morning. Aspirin didn't do any good.
Had to take the test with it. (btw I get migraines)
It was exhausting and I was doubtful from the minute I stepped out.

Some blocks were easy , some were not, 2 were super lengthy. In the end I was just glad that it was over.
I was hoping to get >235 but ended up with 225/97

Have made my peace with it now :)

Hey,
I'm an intern and that means I haven't graduated yet. I'm sorry , but as far as I know only students can apply for clerkships, but don't worry , you can go for observerships and can apply for research work in the US to improve your CV:)

Don't worry....we've all been there :)
CV(curriculum vitae) is a detailed description of your academic and professional achievements and history.
You will find a lot of samples online if you search. You carry it with yourself when you go for interviews
