Hi,
I am pre final medical student .. My step 1 score is 93/219... :indifferent: .. Am looking for Internal Medicine program in a decent university. Now how should i proceed . I still got 1.5 yrs before i take my Step 2 CK which is during my internship , am planning to work hard to get a real good score , after realising certain mistakes i did during my step 1 preparation , and concentrate on clearing CS in the first attempt .
Other than these what other requirements will i need to get a decent IM residency program.
Thanks :)

Hi bragha,
1. I got a similar score in Step 1 like you. With this score you have an important advantage as student compared to us graduated (I graduated in fall 2008), because you have your internship before you. Here you have the great chance to do one part of your internhsip in the USA, to earn "hand-on clinical experinces" in the USA and to gathering important "Lors" from US physicians (Lor= letter of recomandation). With this in your hands, I think your step 1 results are far good enough (not bad at all!). Please search for "clerkships" and "Lors" in the forums to see how important it is and which chance you miss, when not doing as stundent, cause as graduate it is much more difficult and very expensive to do clerkships and obtain US-Lors!

2. Don´t forget that the best time to apply for residency match is at the 1. September (only once a year). So if you are finishing your IMG and Step 2 CK later then September, don´t wait till you are finished, it could be too late and you have to wait a whole year, or miss good chances to be matched. Inform you in advanced which possibilty you have to hand something in later (don´t know the deadlines). I am sure you don´t have to be finished with all in September (2012?) to apply, certainly not when you are fresh graduate!

Please read more in the forums, cause I am also not specailist in "USLME" and "residency match" affairs and could say something unintentional wrong:eek:.

wish you very good chrismas and a happy new year in advanced
