Hello to everyone!
I am an IMG who needs Visa, graduated in 2007 with 1 publication (not first name), 2 months observership in Boston (MGH) and doing my residency ( months) IM right now in my country.
I would like to apply for IM in NY/NJ/FL..... but step 1 score (93/219) discouraged me...:(

Could you honestly tell me if there is any chance to be accepted in NY/NJ/FL for IM with such a score? Should I go on taking the rest of the steps?
I am in a big dilemma, because if I continue studying this means that I have to quit from my residency position for the 2012 match. Should I take the risk?

Any kind suggestions would be more than welcome!
Thank u!

Take the risk

Your Step 1 score is not bad at all.

You have strong points: the MGH observership and you have LoRs from there this will get you really high in the ranking.
The second thing is that you are not an old graduate and that's a great plus in your application.
The other good thing is that you want IM in IMG-friendly states.

So if I were you I take the risk.

Try to get higher score in the CK and pass the CS from first attempt and you should be fine.

Thank you very much Sabio for your kind response:)

You gave me the courage to stick to my primary plan, despite my "average "-according to many people- score...I hear about so many double 99ers iMG canditates that I got disappointed after my performance..:(

I' ll do my best to score higher in Step 2 CK and to pass CS before 1st September so as to be ecfmg certificated as soon as possible.

May God bless you for your kindness..
Good luck.
