Hello everyone. I just received my score and I would like to share my experience because these forums have been very helpful for me too.

I am an IMG and I took the test after graduating from med school. People had terrified me about the test, saying that it's not even close in difficulty compared to any other test or NBME. I am here to say the opposite and reassure you. To me, it seemed like a bit of a hard NBME. After the first block I was relieved and it boosted my confidence when I saw that a lot of questions were ok. Yes there are some wtf questions, but they will probably be only 10 or sth. I think the test was more like Kaplan bank than Uworld. Uworld gets so very deep that makes you freak out. The interface of the test is exactly like Kaplan's. After each block I had 9-10 minutes to review my marked questions, which were about 15. As for the whole 7 hours, they went by as if they were like 30 minutes. The adrenaline rush makes you strong enough to take the whole 7 blocks at one time, don't do it though!

In general, my advice is to study as much as you can and once you see that in NBMEs your scores are close to your goal then you have nothing to fear. The hardest thing about the test is the process of studying and the effort you have to make, not the test itself. I couldn't believe it when it was over, I was so relieved it was over and done with, but then came a worse part: the WAIT. I couldn't help thinking of questions I did wrong and being afraid of the result. But you just have to be patient.

This was my progress:

4 weeks out: NBME 17: 241, Free 150: 92%
3 weeks out: NBME 11: 241, Kaplan Diagnostic: 75%, NBME 12: 251
2 weeks out: UWSA 1: 248, NBME 15: 251, UWSA 2: 256
1 week out: NBME 13: 254, Kaplan Simulation 1: 75%, NBME 16: 258
Kaplan Qbank: 76% (96% completed)

Final Score: 252

My resources were Kaplan Lecture notes and videos except for Pathology, Goljan Pathology, Physio BRS, HY Embryo, CMMRS, HY Gross Anatomy. I would also recommend Kaplan Ethics cases. I used Uworld as a teaching tool and not to test my knowledge. I did not go over the whole bank before the final test, and did not regret it. I only reviewed my notes. Instead, I used Kaplan Qbank for knowledge tresting, and I found it very very good. I did not do Dr. Narjeeb lectures or Goljan audios.

Good luck to everyone

Thank you everyone, I'm very happy to help with your questions.
After the test I discovered about 10 mistakes but obviously there were more. I then stopped counting g coz it made me freak out.

I think the anatomy questions overall were about 20. Most were pretty straightforward, some had CT MRI or Gross images. I would suggest you to go through an atlas so that you know the relations between structures in chest and thorax. About 3 questions were completely new. I think i never found the answers even after googling them. But as I said u just have to go with your gut. Making mistakes that most people will make wil not hurt so much.

I had very few embryo questions, all very simple.
Biochemistry pharm and physio were mostly straightforward.
I had a couple of weird micro questions, but u just try to make the best guess.
Behavioral as always is perplexing.

In retrospect, I think kaplan Lectures took me ages to view, and I don't think I would do them again if I started over. They're so time consuming and tiring.
I wouldn't recommend any pharm resource other than fa and kaplan.

I think about 90% of questions were straight from fa, 97% from fa + Qbanks.
Try to review everything on fa, even those parts u think u know very well.
I wish there was a time counter next to each paragraph on fa that would count how much time you've spent reviewing each, and then emphasise on those with the least time Happy-2
That would have saved my a bunch of questions.

Some people are asking about kaplan qbank.
It is not absolutely necessary to do a second qbank. I just felt that kaplan helped me clarify some parts. There is an option in kaplan where u can choose only high yield questions and hard ones, so if u feel u don't have enough time for the whole thing, u can just do these. Plus it's cheaper than Uworld and it gives u 1 diagnostic test and 2 simulation tests. So in my opinion it's worth it but not essential.
I know a person who did only Uworld and got 243 and I know me and another friend of mine who did both and got 252. Don't know if it coincidence but maybe it helped.

As for the hard parts, I got several hard Q's from almost all subjects, not from one specific subject. Weird thing is I got one Q which was mere obstetrics and one Q which was pediatric; that was frustrating. Behavioral as I said was puzzling and turned out to be my worse performance in the test.

Congratulations!!

Congrats on your awesome score... I wish you have a much more awesome score in CK :)

Regarding q banks ... my exam mostly in late May... I guess I'll be able to handle 1 qbank... should I try kaplan? or go for uworld? as I guess hitting the two in such a small amount of time is not a wise choice.

And what about your tips for my remaining period?

Again, CONGRATULATIONS!! and wish you all the best and more in CK :)

Thank you very very much .
Look Uworld is considered the must - do Qbank, so if you have time only for one, you should probably do this one. It took me A LOT of time to write down all the info of the answers into separate notes, so if u haven't started it yet u should start doing it, just don't get sidetracked by those weird Uworld questions. So then focus on reviewing fa and start the NBMEs after a couple of reviews

Congrats! Fellow IMG here, S1 6 months ago, 255.

I second your opinion about S1 being a very "mythical" beast. There are a lot of things said about it, but I think that if you prepare really well, it is no more than a slightly harder med school exam.

I considered S 2CK to be much harder because it really judges your critical thinking and decision making while S1 is oriented towards understanding and memorizing.

Congratulations on the awesome score! And I wish you all the luck in the world for the steps ahead, which I'm pretty sure you will undoubtedly ace!

Your post was so helpful and encouraging. It's always reassuring to hear from someone who just recently took the test. So i cannot thank you enough. I have a few quick questions if/when you have time:

1) How many times would you say is sufficeint for going through the q banks. In your case, did you go through both Q banks more than once for each of them? I understand everyone is different, but I'm just asking in order to get a good idea.

2) I understand you said the Kaplan lectures are very detailed and too time consuming; so which video review sources would you recommend, if any, for say like 6 weeks before the test?

3)Also, since the Behavioral Sciences portion is the most difficult (most test takers i've heard from usually have claimed the same) do you have any recommendations for what you believe would be the best review source in conjucton with FA?

Thanks for all your help, and for taking the time out for the rest of us. Wish you much success!

Thank you very much for your good words.

1)As you said everyone is different in their studying techniques. For me, going through the Q banks once was enough, because in this first time I write down everything I believe to be important, and afterwards I will review it along with FA, so going through the same questions again would not add to my knowledge. But as I said, everyone works differently.

2) I am not aware of any other video resources, but I think watching videos is best if done early enough and not be left for the last 6 weeks. Well KAplan was good in the way that when I reviewed the lecture notes later I would read the notes I had taken from the videos and this would aid in my understandin. But as I said, watching the whole series took me ages and I simply don't know if this is worthwhile.

3) The answer for Behavioral is I DON'T KNOW! The only thing that might help is doing as many questions as you can. This holds true with everything though. As I said the book with Kaplan Ethics cases might be helpful.
