Hello! I am an IMG and I dont have Visa. I would be grateful if you can share your own experience or the experiences of the people you would have known in the past regarding the ranks where they matched. I have heard that most of the applicants match between their 4-6 ranks. Any input is appreciated..

Most applicants that DO match, end up in their top 3 spots. I believe like 70-80%. If you take into account those that don't match, it's like 50% in their top 3.

This is available in the NRMP brochure as "independent applicants" vs American graduates , the graph in page 34 (iirc) (also includes Osteopathic students and IMG, I don't think it changes that much cause DOs aren't seen much better than IMGs)

In general you also need 7-ish interviews to match, but as I've seen personally.... You only really need 1 :) (if you are lucky)

Just like drivenby said. The ones that do match are about 50% in their #1, 20% in their #2, 15% in their #3 and the rest >4. And about 50-60% of IMGs match. Now with 7+ interviews is "the golden number" to match, but all it really takes is 1.

Actually, DOs are generally given more IVs and ranked higher than IMG, especially since they are educated/trained in the U.S. I was also told this by several programs and a PD that I worked with. AMG>DOs>>>IMG.

For DOs match rate is > 90% and about half will match through ACGME programs. The remainder are matched through AOA programs. The match rate for IMG is about 42%. DOs account for a very small percent in the NRMP.

Oh, Im sorry. Its 49.5% for Non-US IMG (big difference :notsure:) and 53% for US-IMG. See page 18 and 19 of the NRMP main residency match results. Then look at page 14 of the match rate of osteopaths vs IMGs. Almost 80% vs 49.5%. Big difference. So I guess they are seen much better light than IMG. As I said, I had PDs tell me before AMG>DO>>>IMG. It will only get worse with the new agreements with AOA and ACGME.

DOs applicants were about 3,700 total. Over 800 withdrew, probably because many can't participate in the NRMP match if they already matched to DO programs. In comparison, there were over 16K IMG applicants. See page 15.

8 percent and 11 percent are a lot....it's a tough road buddy no doubt but such is the path we choose.
