I have a friend who used to be the topper of our class many times during medical school years. She is absolutely a genius. Her overall average on final medical school transcript is more than 90. Obviously being my classmate, she is also an IMG. Now she is going to shift to US along with her husband and a son through obtaining green card. She has been lecturer of Anatomy at our medical school for the last 2 years, however, our medical school doesn't have any PhD program so far. I mean she is only a lecturer.

Since she hasn't taken any of USMLE steps so far, she asks me how she can find similar job (lecturer) in any of American medical school? What would be the process to obtain such a goal?
Is USMLE a must for that or not?
I would like to know both about basic science lecturer and clinical science lecturer jobs. And most importantly, does somebody know about the possibility of such a job or not?

The Academic route

The academic posts are not the same as the clinical posts in USA.

To get an academic post (lecturer), you need to get Masters or PhD degree.

She does not need USMLE for that matter.

She can start contacting universities for possible masters or PhD degrees in Anatomy.

I've known a few lecturers with MBBS, so she might be able to secure a post without getting any further degree.

She can send her CV to universities in areas her family would like to move, or she can search at the websites of those schools or on the Chronicle of Higher Ed site.
