A 63 year old male has anal canal carcinoma with no evidence of spread to the pelvic wall, pelvic muscles or lymph nodes.
What is the best mode of treatment?

A- Sigmoid resection
B- Chemotherapy and radiotherapy
C- Left hemicolectomy
D- Abdominoperineal resection
E- Internal sphincterotomy

Unlike colorectal carcinoma
anal cancer can be effectively treated with radio and chemotherapy
