Another online resource is now available for USMLE students. USMLEQuickPrep will launch officially in March 2010. The website is essentially an online qbank where subscribers get access to thousands of questions categorized by discipline.

The two major features that make USMLEQuickPrep differs from the currently established online qbanks are:

First: Authors are known and revealed. In their list of contributors they list all of the MDs and PHDs that have written the questions and many of whom are in fact George Washington University faculty. This is certainly a great advantage over others as it increases trust and transparency. We never know who wrote USMLEWorld questions!

Second: They offer a special feature in which subscribers can directly question the professors! This makes USMLEQuickPrep looks like an online medical class tailored for passing the USMLE. However, answers will not be immediate and it may take up to 48 hours.

Pricing is a little bit on the higher side and this is probably because they have to pay royalty fees to all those professors and MDs. This makes them less competitive at least in the overseas market.

They also guarantee a pass if you don't pass they'll refund the money! This is not so great if we remember that the pass rate of US medical students is over 90% in the USMLE Step 1 then this guarantee is not outstanding. They probably should guarantee a score over 90 or at least 85 if they want to use it as a strong marketing point.

Unfortunately, no questions samples are available without subscription and so students cannot gauge their question quality before signing up.

USMLEQuickPrep is launching at times where we have big players such as UWorld, Kaplan, and USMLERx but it is quickly setting itself apart with new innovative features that may steal many of the us. Is this going to be the next big thing in USMLE online preparation! Lets' wait and see.

Response from USMLEQuickPrep

We received an email from Nathan Currier in response to the above post.

He mentioned that USMLEQuickPrep now includes a free sample of questions for students to be able to gauge the question quality.

He also mentioned that pricing will be revised as soon as they launch in next March.

Also the guarantee will be reconsidered to be modified into a "score" guarantee.
