Not getting a good score out of uworld. Although I have just been though 7 blocks but quite tensed. I am not going past 55%. Having a hard time recalling stuff. Plus only able to do one block per day.

Anyone who has scored high, please help. Urgently.

hi there....how many months did u do kaplan? concepts are very essential for this exam...u ned not memorise stuff but as long as u r able to recall stuff after viewing the explanations then its ok...just keep reading the explanation part...take an nbme to assess urself after 2weeks.....if u score even low then u may have to postpone ur exam and skim thru fa once more....u can go back to another reading of kaplan in subjects u are weak at...hope this helps :)

As smita said,

Concepts are important. You need to understand where the problem is. There are many possibilities like:
Your diagnosis was right, but you didn't know the last piece of information needed to answer the question.
Or your diagnosis was wrong - read the explanation and try to understand, why you missed it. Usethe qestion bank to guide you, what you need to work on.
What kind of questions are you missing? Myself, I'm having hard time with histology/scans/heart sounds - all the multimedia questions plus those weird safety question.
Identify the problem, then look for a solution. Just saying I'm scoring XY% in question bank won't help much. Besides, yes it is comforting to know the answers to all the questions, but you bought UW for a reason. If you got 90+% in all blocks, kt is safe to say that you wasted your money.
Don't worry too much about it. If you're work on your weak areas, it will go up.

I did kaplan q bank but it was divided over a long period. But i kept in touch on a for atleast 4 to 5 months but still I feel its not helping. Issue right now is I am finding it hard to recall the very basic information from first aid. Plus in a few questions i get diagnosis wrong. and after reading the explanation i feel i should have got it right because there are actual lines in fa.

And generally how much time does a block take. It is taking me a full day.

Ok, then you should probably go throug the things you forget most often in FA - just to refresh your memory. I hate cramming these little details, but it is certainly necessary to some extent.
As for reading the explanations, it will take you as much time as you decide to spend on the block. Just think about it this way - if you had 3 hours per each block (just to answer the questions, it would certainly take you longer to answer one block than right now). If you feel like you are spending too much time on something, put a timer on and don't let yourself concentrate on every little detail. It's ok to spend the whole days with just 2-3 blocks. 1 block per day is IMHO a little too slow, especially, if you UNDERSTAND and know (although passively, but still) the concept tested. If you have the time to go through the qbank this way though, it's totally ok.

How much does it usually take for a block to complete with explanation. apart from the timed mode. Like once we start explanation of a block how much time?

Ok. It all depends on what you do with the explanation. Do you take short notes? Extensive ones? None at all? Because this is the major factor that affects how long it takes. Just reading the explanations shouldn't probably take longer than 2-3 hours. And that only if you read the explanations very carefully. If you take notes, it can vary. Having a good note-taking system saves bunch of time. But remember. It is counter productive to rewrite all the material in the explanation to your notes. You won't have time to read it anyway.

When is your exam?

Its very near.
Just make a list of things you want to go through before exam. Prioritize. Consider the amount of time you have till exam. When you will know how much time you have for Uworld, you can decide, if you want to go through 100% faster, or 40% but thoroughly.

I am trying my focus on uworld. I have many many weakness in many many areas.
U world should help u to study ... Forget about z score ... Focus on getting z concepts right ....
U said u ve lil time or I would ve recommend u do Kaplan videos + Goljan audio in pathology to lay down good foundation of concepts ... I can advice u instead of doing mix Uworld Qs ... Do the following:
1. Read FA a specific system
2. Do Uworld Qs on tht system
3. Write notes from Uworld to FA as u needed
4. After u finish read z whole system again wz ur notes involved
5. Can u feel u ve better understanding of the topic or not yet
Try to do 2 blocks per day ...
I know this will affect z goodness of UW usage ... But what can be better than u grasping the knowledge :):)

From my point of view pple r different some pple must understand well before they can put things to memory (like me) ... Some r memorizing machines, they can put things in memory & work them out from there ....
What type r u? Will help u recognize what way will be beneficial for u to study ...
