Valgus means medial
Varus means lateral

Look for the "R" in both words.

Examples:
Genu valgus means "know-knees" as they go medially.
Varus stress test is named so because you put lateral stress on the leg of a partially flexed knee to see if there's knee lateral ligament tear.

Here's an excellent video of the varus stress test

varus and valgus

a 'vulgar' woman has her legs spread outward(valgus)

Valgus means medial
Varus means lateral

maybe this just works for my brain.. i spell it - Genu va ll gus... and i think of both the l's as legs put together. .. so knock knees ( knees together)

by default varus is the opposite.
best mnemonic so far!!! now I dont confuse them again, thanks!!;)

My view

i remember these as word-direction wise,

valgus= vulgur = outward going
varus by default inward going

varus STRESS= inward Stress = to check LATERAL lig tear.
