This one's for everyone's who's already taken step 1 or at least have their exam coming up soon.:)

Did u find the kaplan book alone to be sufficient prep for the exam? (of course with UW)? or did u feel the need to use / refer to another book?

In one post you said that Kaplan is the best for immune and is enough
and this post you ask whether it's enough or not?

Make up your mind please
According to advices I have gotten from those who scored high in the Step 1, many used Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple.
well usmlefreak, you should really read posts more carefully before u comment :)

I asked if people found kaplan was adequate for MICRO
and stated that I found kaplan good for IMMUNO.

2 different subjects. have you considered that it may be possible that each subject may need some individualised preparation?

Furthermore, the thread asks whether other people think Kaplan is adequate or not. I have not stated my opinion on the micro kaplan.

Hopefully this clarifies the claimed discrepancy.
The answer to this question is simple
If you have time, search for the best micro and imunno book and read them
If you don't have time, do Kaplan. It's concise and safe to do alone
Simply

I have not sat the exam as yet, but many people i know chose Microbiology made ridiculously simple and that was a big help for them along with the Microbiolgy part of the first aid book

Yeaps, I have a friend who told me his experience. Halfway through the exam he came across a simple recall question on microbio, but he just couldn't recall because he had some mental block, he couldnt remember the words in First Aid. Then he tried to recall from MMRS, and it came to him in a flash! (the picture for tetracyline toxicity)

Therefore, though you may feel like you do not need pictures to help you memorize facts, but at severe times when your mind is all blocked and you can't recall from 1st aid, those pictures may be your lifesaver!
all those images

the mmmrs has these images that get stuck in your mind do that along with some q bank questions and you should be fine
The Clinical Infectious Disease Chapter of Kaplan Notes is the best ever and the highest yield ever material that you can read for your Step 1.

All those tables with clinical scenario approaches make you answer any micro question in the exam.

Kaplan materials is more than enough and it's great

The kaplan book is great for immunology but not microbiology
Kaplan is even more than what you need for micro.
MMRS is shorter and is enough

I apologize if you thought my post is insulting :sorry:

hey, i did my exam on the 21st Dec. 2010 n found micro FA (with UW notes) to b sufficient. of course when doing UW, micro FA wasn't sufficient but after u do UW micro n write the notes into FA, i believe that is more then enough for the exam.
just go over micro kaplan once.
hope this helps.
