According to advices I have gotten from those who scored high in the Step 1, many used Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple.

I have not sat the exam as yet, but many people i know chose Microbiology made ridiculously simple and that was a big help for them along with the Microbiolgy part of the first aid book

Yeaps, I have a friend who told me his experience. Halfway through the exam he came across a simple recall question on microbio, but he just couldn't recall because he had some mental block, he couldnt remember the words in First Aid. Then he tried to recall from MMRS, and it came to him in a flash! (the picture for tetracyline toxicity)

Therefore, though you may feel like you do not need pictures to help you memorize facts, but at severe times when your mind is all blocked and you can't recall from 1st aid, those pictures may be your lifesaver!
