After reading FA twice, I can't go and read it again. It's pretty big for a summary. I think all the figures, pathways,..etc made it a bit big. It's a great book though.

My Q now: I'm currently doing USMLE WORLD and I need something that does FA's job but in a faster and straight forward way. Something like flashcards. Especially for biochemistry. For instance: Von Gierke dse > def. of G6Pase -- and so on.

Is there something similar available?

Thnx.

Gunner Training

Gunnertraining.com is a USMLE prep website based on flashcards, and I think the cards are basically designed from First Aid. Their basic idea is that you review a few concepts in subjects of your choosing (you can choose very specific topics to review), then it designs a set of questions to quiz you based on what you review. The great thing about it is that when you take the quiz, it registers how well you know the material and creates a review schedule for you based on your performance. I think they have a two week free trial still going on, I tried it for free and liked it.

Another thing I've heard people do is review the margin notes in Goljan RR if you have been using that, although that would just get you a Path review.

Good luck! :)

Keep repeating FA until you swallow it all. I know it's painful but that's the destiny of medical students :toosad:
People are reading it more than three times, see this http://www.usmle-forums.com/best-us...many-times-should-we-read-fa-step-1-prep.html
I agree with that, read and repeat with first aid seems to be a must. You pretty much have to know first aid inside and out and be able to write down every chart by memory. If that takes you 10 reads, then it takes you 10 reads. Learn it!

If you really understand and know your stuff, then reading the first aid becomes a lot easier and you can breeze through it after a couple of reads.

I don't think Gunner training should be used as a question bank since the questions are not formatted in USMLE style. The questions are meant for you to quiz yourself after you review the topics on their flash cards, they are not stand-alone questions. If you're not using their flash cards, it doesn't make sense to do their questions.

Also, the flash cards on their site are made from FA, so going through them is like going through FA another time.
