I've been hearing lots and lots of rumors and talks about the importance of the USMLE three digit score.

Yet, I did not find any logic or convincing explanation as to how it matters and why and when.

Please your input into this, specially UFs staff please

Thanks in advance,

It matters only for 99ers

Anything below a 99 digit score then the three digit score doesn't really matter as obviously the two digit score will be the differentiator.

The three digit scores are of value for those 99ers only. If a program is so competitive to the point that all applicants are in fact 99ers (perhaps radiology, ENT, orthopedics, ..etc) then obviously they will resort to the three digit score to differentiate among them.

The 250 USMLE Score threshold

When you get 99 then it does not matter whether it's 228 or 248. It will be eye opening only when it crosses the 250.

Those who get over 250 are considered genius and PDs love to have them in their residents pool.
