I wrote my step 1 in July 2016 in my 3rd year of medical school. I scored 232.
Can anybody help me in suggesting a timeline so as to apply for residency during my internship?
And how much advantage do I get for attempting this early?
Thanks in advance!
As for your question, only you can answer that because it totally depends on you. Graduates take 5-6 months for CK and 15days-1 month for CS. Since you want to apply during internship, I'd suggest you complete the exams before Sept 15 of the year you want to apply i.e. 2018.
You could do a few electives in the field of your choice in the months after your final MBBS exam and then give CS (if you haven't already) before starting internship. Now your college might have a different calendar of events so plan accordingly. Though keep in mind, you will not get the ECFMG certificate till you get your degree certificate verified by ECFMG which is possible only after graduation. This does not mean you cannot apply without the certificate but it means you should have it by the time you match (also depends on the program).
