Cockroach Competent Bacteria

Whenver you see the word "competent bacteria" in USMLE it means that this bacteria is capable of undergoing "genetic transformation" by taking up naked DNA pieces and incorporate it into its own genome.

The list of competent bacteria is here
The naturally transformable microorganims are these:
  • Streptococci (any one of them)
  • Bacillus subtilis
  • Hemophilus (any one of them)
  • Neisseria gonorrhea
  • Helicobacter pylori
