i found out today i failed step 1. i have a husband, in laws and my own family to answer to now. personally, i'm not too surprised i failed i knew i wasn't ready going in and was pretty sure i failed when i left. i am pressured to get residency asap which is why i took it when i wasn't prepared.
i want to do my residency in psych. i have scheduled my step 2 ck for aug. end and am really not prepared because i have been anxious/ depressed about my step 1 result coming out. i am taking step 2 cs in a few days so i'm studying for that. would it have made a difference if i had walked out and forfeited that exam? and what is the opinion of what i should do now? should i cancel step 2 ck and come back to it later and take step 1 now? |

So sorry to hear that. This is a huge step in life. I know about being pressured, I just simply pay no mind to everything people have to say. You need the confidence to break these exams. Don't let anyone pressure you. For step 2ck and cs, take it only if you feel well prepared. Your step 2 ck is right around the corner. You're still not too late to back out and take it when you think you can break it. CS is much better because its just pass/fail, but even then, do not go for it unless YOUR heart dictates it, not anyone else's. I wish you the best and hang in there. Better days shall come.

Hey pshah being a doctor is really stressful and people who are not in this profession might not be able to understand that..i think ppl think that it might be easy for us cuz maybe we have a good mind but they don't realize how much hard work goes into all that we do...Listen girl its ur life okay and nobody should pressure u into anything. I know husband is important but he should try to understand ur situation. Just try talking to him and explain to him that u need to take ur time with this and rushing into all this is not going to help. You already are a doctor so be proud of yourself and try again...Best of Luck!

would it have made a difference if you walked out and forfeited? I dont think you want to ask that question - cause it doesnt matter now, no? If I was you, I would try to come to the realization that I probably wont get into residency next year, but definitely guarantee a spot in 2013! is it that bad not getting into residency the year you want? I wanted to get in 2007 - but forced myself to study more and take live lectures and exam questions until i got it - so i didnt enter for 2008 - and got an extension on step 2 ck (w avg step 1 score). Aftrer 7 months of going at the material at my own pace - and after the 99% - i got many interviews and sort of rubbed it in everyone's face who tried to pressure me to take it earlier to make a date. if you're not ready - you're not - dont be in denial. you cant take the exam again if u pass barely. Take Live lecture vs online prep for step 1 - irrespective of how people say Kaplan is good for step 1- Falcon is much better in at least live lectures - Dr. Edward Goljan taught me directly - and after class he even tutored me 2:1 ratio. Just saying. I got a lot of confidence for step 1 through live lectures. I dont think u should rush into take step 2 ck before step 1 (i actually didnt know if that was possible for someone to take step 2 before step 1 - does ecfmg allow that?) Best of luck ![]()
