Hi y'all,
This is my first post here and would really appreciate anyones insight. I am scheduled to write my Step 1 next week on October 8th and strongly considering moving it. I have been doing really well on the uworld (75% and over) and have gone through the FA well but only did my first NBME last week. I failed it (NBME 17) with a 240 assessment score (aprox 170-something) and did another one yesterday (NBME 13) and again only scored a 250. I dont really know what went wrong, I feel like the questions from NBME are coming at me completely differently and I am not making key connections. I am a Canadian doing my medical school in Europe and have full intention on doing my residency and working in the US. My USMLE score is important to me and I know the better I score the "easier" it will be for me moving forward. What are your suggestions? Move the test? How long do I need and what should I be doing? Re-read FA, re-do UW, do more assessments? Any good online companies/tutors/help which worked for anyone here? How do I get my test taking up and realistically how long do i need to be ready to kick this things ass? Any advice would help Thanks |

If you did Uworld on random and timed mode, and you are at 75%, there's no way you would fail a NBME.
Hmm, I think you should postpone your exam as it is very risky for you. Better to postpone Step 1 than to fail Step 1. You should read Uworld slowly and carefully. After you finish Uworld once, do it a second time but this time you should only do the questions you answered wrongly. After that do both UWSA and learn from them. Best of luck and don't give up! ![]()

If i were you, i would never postpone it. cause i believe more you stuck on this the more you get bored.. i think your scores are pretty good since more than 240. so go over Fa quickly and do one more nbme then you are ready

he got 240 assessment score in NBME, which is a failing score. 240 is roughly 170 if converted to Step 1 score.

Wasnt that the nbme the predictive one for step 1? i think 240 point on nbme must be like 235-245 on real one

I think it's risky taking the exam next week. You need that confidence to write the exam. Take your time and work on your weak areas especially with u world and fa. DO more assessment tests you will do much better. Don't panic it's not the end of the world at least there's what I tell myself. All the best.

There is no way to get 75% in UW and fail in NBME..
I think you seriously need to think about what went wrong my friend, don't panic. You are almost there, just get the right foot in. Did you go through all explanation thoroughly? Did you do it in time mode? Did you review your right and wrong answers? Do you have problem with time management/understanding the question right? Did you cover all the subjects and topics? Right now,my advice is to postpone, take your time and do well on your steps. Evaluate yourself,do concentrate on your weaker subjects and stay positive..God bless you.. . |

If you are thinking you should move the test, then move the test, don't take a risk with something this important in your life, sorry, but as a friend it is that simple,

Hey I went to semmelweis. I am studying for the usmle as well. I think you should definently postpone the test as well. I took nbme 11yesterday after my first pass and scored a 280 which comes out to about 181. I am a bit worried that this is not even passing but in all reality it is after my first pass of things. Iam taking it on Dec 30. I think you should probably try to stick to the first aid and questions. Maybe do the wrong and marked every morning and read the first aid in the afternoons.
