Sometime ago I have created a plan for the Step 1 preparation, but after reading some the posts on this forum began to question if it is realistic.
I have a thee pronged approach to preparation. I am currently in the part 1 of my preparation. While still going to classes to finish ch1-7 of Robins pathology and do DIT weekly questions. Now this part of the plan is ok for me now, it is the second part that worries me. I am planning to do the entire Kaplan lecture notes + videos + Qbank in 1 month. I figured that there were 25 DVDs in the series and I could do I DVD/day following along with the books. As for the Qbank I thought of doing 40 question in the morning and 40 at night. Now there is a third part of my plan, but my main question is about the Kaplan insane month. I am not sure how long the videos really are and if there would even be enough time in a day to do what I planned?! Now the third part of my plan is DIT. I planned a week and a half of DIT lectures + UW questions. Then I have a mendatory break where I have to go to classes at my school for a transition week. When I get back I spend another week finishing off DIT. Then take the last 5-7 days for a complete FA review and memorization of most high yield material as well as finishing off UW before I reach the judgment day. I would really appreciate if someone could give me the usual time frame for the Kaplan notes + DVD's. Thanks, SB. |

This is insane
![]() Moreover, your busy schedule has limitations and you have to be realistic. Unless, you are reading with "newspaper style" you won't even be able to finish the notes themselves let alone the vids. There's a thread here about which Kaplan vids are useful here's the link http://www.usmle-forums.com/usmle-st...ave-watch.html It may help you avoid some of the unnecessary subject vids Bottom line, I think you should seriously revise your plan ![]() |

You know what, it's possible
![]() I know a friend who crammed on Kaplan Notes in three weeks (but she did not see the vids). I suggest you give a try for a couple of days and then extrapolate from those two days to measure the time needed to finish them. If at all, leave the biochem and pharm book as FA is super in these. |

Can someone then tell me how long does it take on average to go through Kaplan Notes with videos 1 time.
It's scary that most people on this forum devote at least 3 months to study since my school only gives us 1 month total before the beginning of 3rd year clerckships and I am already using most of my vacation month with this plan. |

If you use powerdvd and speed up to 1.5x (doesn't change the pitch and it's more than intelligible) the videos will take you around 2 weeks 10 hours a day (highly possible). Cram the lecture notes in 2-3 weeks also possible...happy burnout!!

i had a friend once that scored a 99 and he too was very busy with classes etc. but despite all that he still took a yr to study (as i am) and when it came to clerkship and his other classes, he just chose to pay less attention. some students did mock him for not being able to keep up with lessons, but he shrugged it all off. today he's doing his residency in int.med while his other friends are still struggling to finish their housemanship. he had his priorities. my point-- do not feel overwhelmed with the load of work that is coming yr way. score really high in this exam and it may grant u a residency place in yr choice of field and yr choice of location instead of just being placed anywhere for the sake of getting in. ![]() ![]() |

I just took Step 1 on April 30 of this year (2 days ago). Didnt even bother to look at First Aid 3 weeks before my test, at all. Ok, perhaps once or twice when I looked up the "QISS QIQ SIQ SQS" thing... lol... it was just PURE Kaplan and UWorld. Kaplan videos were watched at 2x speed and in 3 weeks I was able to see: Patho, Pharm, Anatomy (includes Embryo + Neuro), Physio, Genetics, Biochem metabolism, and half of behavioral science). Basically everything except Micro/Immuno since I got this bright Idea 3 weeks before hand, instead of 4 weeks. Cheers and goodluck. I hope this motivates ya to keep going. ![]() |
